UniPro™ technology is designed to stand alone as a complete emergency shutdown system or to integrate and interface with existing unloading components that may already be in place at the site. The basic system incorporates several components. Each component has been engineered, designed, and pre-assembled by Powell to ensure proper system performance and reduced installation time, labor and material cost. UniPro™ systems can accommodate ball-type or plug-type valve handles found on any one of several pressurized containers of hazardous gases. Other system components include a wide range of valve adapters, a hose reel, air control system, air receiver assembly, railcar motion detection system, and a basic control panel to activate the system.
Powell can also supply custom control panels to control new or automatically existing chlorine and pad gas valves and chlorine detectors. An emergency stop (E-Stop) panel can also be installed wherever convenient for an operator to remotely shut the railcar valves from a safe distance.
Designed to close a variety of plug-type angle valves on railcars and tank trucks with dome sizes between 24 and 42 inches in diameter. Automatically responds to any alarm input, closing valves with 120 lb-ft of torque in less than 10 seconds.More...
The only reversible emergency valve closure technology designed for 20-ton bullet tanks to 90-ton railcars, this patent-pending system prevents reportable releases of pressurized hazardous gases at the source. Plus, the UniPro™ R system is easily “reversible” – helping reduce operator effort and potential injuries.More...
The only low-torque emergency valve closure technology designed for 20-ton bullet tanks to 90-ton railcars, this patent-pending system prevents reportable releases of pressurized hazardous gases at the source. Plus, the UniPro™ LT system is specifically designed for “low-torque” valves to prevent damage to the valve seat.More...
The only quarter-turn emergency valve closure technology designed for 20-ton bullet tanks to 90-ton railcars, this patent-pending system prevents reportable releases of pressurized hazardous gases at the source. Plus, the UniPro™ QT system is uniquely designed for “quarter-turn” ball-type valves.More...
Several valve adapters are available for use with the UniPro™ Pneumatic Emergency Valve Closure System.
The UniPro™ Air Control Assembly is a group of components designed to work together to supply the proper amount of clean pressurized air (nitrogen) to the system. The equipment is pre-assembled for simple installation. The Air Control Assembly is available in two sizes for large or small applications.
The UniPro™ Hose Reel Assembly consists of a bottom wound spring-driven rewind hose reel with latching mechanism and 70 feet of hose. The Hose Reel delivers the air supply from the platform to the railcar dome. In the event of car movement, the hose follows the railcar to maintain air flow to the actuators.
The UniPro™ Air Receiver Assembly allows the UniPro™ System to function even if power or air pressure is lost. The unit can be designed to accommodate up to two railcars per assembly. Typically, the Air Receiver Assembly is mounted out of the way under a dock stairway. The Air Receiver Assembly attaches to the Air Control Unit.
The UniPro™ Explosion Proof Railcar Motion Detector System is designed to mount on the loading/unloading platform near the tank car being serviced. The spool holds 25 feet of stainless steel braided cable and the locking mechanism on the reel prevents excess cable from unwinding in the event of tank car motion. The cable can be routed around any solid object on the tank car and clipped to the pin underneath the reel. The pin is inserted through a rotating fixture above an explosion proof (Class 1, Div 1) switch.
In the event of tank car motion, the pin is pulled free, releasing the switch. The rotating fixture assures that the pin will be pulled straight out regardless of the direction of tank car motion.
The signal from the switch activates the UniPro™ Valve Closure System, which quickly responds by closing the valve within seconds.
The UniPro™ Remote Emergency Stop Pushbutton Panel (E-Stop Panel) may be installed wherever convenient for operators to reach in an emergency. The operators can use the E-Stop Panel to remotely shut the railcar valves without approaching the railcar.
A basic control panel activates the UniPro™ System in an emergency, then stops the air supply after 15 seconds to prevent large volumes of air or nitrogen from being vented after the valve has been closed. Powell can supply custom panels to control new or existing automatic and pad gas valves and detectors.
The UniPro™ Valve Closure System is available with standard relay logic controls panels, as well as control panels with programmable logic. Either control panel is a separate stand-alone unit that can be taken offline without affecting other control panels. A communication cable links each panel. In place of pilot lights and switches, the operator interfaces with the panel via the screen display. This updated panel configuration gives the end user flexibility to adapt the control panel if the architecture of the unloading system needs to be modified.
