Production Supervisor

Job Summary

The Production Supervisor reports to the Chief Operating Officer. This position oversees and manages
projects, production employees, facilities maintenance, and ensures compliance with company safety
and quality standards. Drives continuous improvement initiatives, coaches the team to own problemsolving
on the shop floor, and fosters a strong culture of employee engagement.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees production operations and daily workflow and assignments of production personnel,
    ensuring goals are aligned with and representative of the overall company directive.
  • Ensures effective two-way communication by escalating production team concerns to leadership
    and cascading leadership’s vision, directives, and updates back to the team.
  • Maintains staff by training and developing personal growth opportunities for production
    employees and self.
  • Coordinates production schedules with project managers, supply chain manager and sales
    personnel to maximize production efficiency on all projects and ensures on-time completion for
    sales orders, stock jobs, highly engineered (HE) projects, and RMA rebuilds.
  • Supervises multiple ongoing projects and works independently without direct supervision.
  • Reviews blueprints and BOMs to verify materials, special options, and escalate discrepancies.
  • Identifies and reports any nonconformance to drawings, specifications, or Powell standards,
    especially safety-critical issues, and ensures corrective actions are documented and
    communicated.
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives and coaches the team to own problem-solving on the
    shop floor.
  • Oversees troubleshooting of process, build, or quality issues, ensures the team works through
    first-pass fixes and escalates more complex technical problems to Engineering.
  • Maintains knowledge of processes and equipment.
  • Ensures production reports, time records and job data are updated in a timely and accurate
    manner.
  • Oversees the effective management of facilities maintenance, ensuring the upkeep and
    functionality of all physical spaces, equipment, and systems to create a safe and efficient
    working environment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment and ensures that employees comply with
    applicable safety regulations and procedures in accordance with company policies.
  • Always wears company-approved safety equipment and notifies the appropriate staff of
    defective safety equipment when identified. Is responsible for ceasing work if defective safety
    equipment is evident.
  • Ensures required safety training for authorized employees is administered and that training
    materials are maintained in compliance with OSHA, other regulatory bodies, and Powell policy.
  • Works additional hours as required, and performs other job-related duties and expectations as
    communicated by management.
  • Follows and enforces Powell procedures and policies at all times.

Job Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of, or the ability to quickly learn, production operations and
    machinery.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and develop a culture of buy-in on new processes and
    improvements.
  • Skilled at delegation, coaching and accountability.
  • Experience using continuous improvement tools.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with OSHA regulations and industrial safety programs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to complete reports and logs.
  • Must be able to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or
    controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; squat; climb ladders; see; talk and hear; lift
    up to 50 pounds.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) plus 10+ years in fabrication/assembly, with 3+ years in a
    supervisory or lead role.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in a production environment or any equivalent combination of
    experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing
    professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art
    practices; participating in professional societies.
